1. What requirement I need to fulfil to hire a foreign domestic maid?
Employers must be married, employed or having a business and with children below the age of 15 years old. A minimum income of RM84,000.00 per annum for Indonesian and RM60,000.00 for Filipino / Sri Lanka maid. An unmarried person can also apply for a maid to take care of elderly parents and are subjected to the above annual income.
2. How long does it take for my helper to arrive in Malaysia once I confirm the candidate?
It takes about 10 to 12 weeks upon submission of complete documents to our agency provided the employer has no pending issues like unreported runaway maids to the Immigration department.
3. Can I hire a second maid?
To apply for a second maid, the joint annual income must be a minimum of RM120,000.00 per annum. The employer needs to justify hiring a second maid like taking care of their elderly parents or a big home.
4. What are the duties and responsibilities as an employer?
Employers need to ensure the basic necessities like:
- Providing suitable accommodation
- Setting reasonable working hours
- Proper communication
- Salaries to be paid in time
- Provide her with basic toiletries
5. Can I treat my foreign domestic helper just like a family member?
It’s a very subjective matter. The relationship between you and your foreign domestic maid is an employer/employee relationship. If you can adhere to the terms and guideline on employment you should not have any major issues with your helper otherwise it can lead to unnecessary expectations, demands and disappointment.
6. Can I keep my foreign domestic helper’s passport?
You can only keep your helper’s passport for safe keeping with the consent of the foreign domestic maid.
7. What is a Personal Bond?
Personal Bond is an undertaking by the employer should their foreign domestic maid runs away; you may need to pay a sum of a minimum of RM250.00 to a maximum of RM750.00 to the Department of Immigration depending on the nationality of the maid.
8. What is the standard duration of a foreign domestic maid employment contract?
Standard maid employment contracts are for 2 years however a premature termination is possible. Please refer to the employment contract for early termination.
9. How many years can I renew my maid’s visa?
There is no time limit for the foreign domestic maids to work in Malaysia. They can work as long as their services are required by the employer.
10. What should I do if my foreign domestic maid runs away?
First thing is to make a police report and then notify the agency. The agency shall advice you on the next cause of action.
